2006 F1 Picks Format

It's that time of year again. Only a couple weeks until the 2006 Formula 1 season starts, and what better way to show you know more than everyone else than by correctly predicting the outcome of the race before it happens. It is this right of bragging that has driven us to put together this site, F1Picks.com. There have been a few changes this season, but the main idea is the same.

The main change this year is instead of having a "Best of the Rest," a tier system will be instituted since there seems to be 3 main levels at which the teams compete. The podium positions will be the first picks, then we will pick 1 driver from each of the two lower levels that you belive will finish ahead of the rest of the drivers in that tier. The layout is shown below with a further explanation to follow.

First Place - 6 points
Second Place - 4 points
Third Place - 2 points

Top Placing Driver from Middle Tier - 3 points
Top Placing Driver from Bottom Tier - 3 points

Manufacturer - 3 points
Fastest Lap - 2 points
Pit Stops - 2 points


As was the case last year, for first and second places, there is a two point deduction for every position the driver finishes away from that chosen. So if your first place pick finishes third, 2 points will be awarded. Any drivers can be chosen for the top three places.

The tiers are defined as follows:

Second tier teams include WilliamsF1, BMW-Sauber, Red Bull, and Toyota.
The drivers for these teams are Mark Webber, Nico Rosberg, Nick Heidfeld, Jaques Villenuve, David Coulthard, Christian Klien, Jarno Trulli, and Ralf Schumacher.

Third tier teams consist of Scuderia Torro Rosso, MidlandF1, and Super Aguri.
The drivers for these teams are Scott Speed, Vitantonio Liuzzi, Christian Albers, Tiago Montiero, Takuma Sato and Yuji Ide.

A copule extra notes:
The Pit Stop points are awarded for the correct number of *fuel/tire* stops made by the winning driver. This excludes stops for damage or modifications only. And finally if you are unable to sign on and make you picks by the time the race starts, your picks will default to the same made at the last race. While this is not desireable it is better than having none at all.
